Welcome to Lubega institute of nursing and Health Professionals

Lubega Institute of Nursing and Medical Sciences (LINMS) is a brainchild of Prof. Dr. Muhamadi Lubega. Dr. Lubega is a Professor of Medicine, who has a remarkably good truck performance in the field of Health Education and in Management of Health Systems.

Prof. Dr. Muhamadi Lubega is a Public Health Specialist, an experienced Medical Doctor and a renowned Educationist, Manager and Scientist. He has in the past successfully been a founding member of Busoga University School of Nursing and Midwifery, Lugazi School of Nursing and Midwifery, Lugazi Mixed Primary School, Lubega Institute of Nursing and Medical Sciences and Lubega School of Health Professionals. These are all successful private institutions in Uganda.

Prof. Dr. Lubega Muhamadi is the Chairman of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council amd also doubles as the first Deputy Prime Minister of Busoga Kingdom.

This exposure has made Prof. Dr. Lubega Muhamadi realize the apparent need for higher education in the country

The Institutes have a Memorandum of Understanding with Iganga District Hospital, Tororo District Hospital, Kamuli District Hospital, Busolwe General Hospital, St. Francis Buluba Hospital, Iganga Municipal Council Health Centre, Iganga Islamic Medical centre, Busesa Health Centre and Namungalwe Health Centre where students go for practicum.

The Institutes have a total population of one thousand five hundred students, employs over one hundred staff both academic and

administrative, bought two institute buses for transporting students to various practicum sites, two staff vans and has acquired enough textbooks, Laboratory Equipment and a standby generator. The Institutes have also acquired about thirty acres of land for current and future development.

In view of the above, the institutes have the capacity and potential in terms of infrastructure, equipment and human resource to offer programmes at degree level.

📚 Research Activities

Periodically, the institute engages in research and organizes dissemination seminars, conducts workshops and engages in public and community lectures as well as conferences to promote training and learning for students, practicing professionals and the general public. The niche of the institute is Public Health and this makes our graduates rank among the high achievers in the field of health.

Also the institute undertakes pilot studies and community surveys in the neighbourhood and other outreach communities to ascertain the health status and needs of the community, possible health risks and emergence of new diseases and to determine their intensity, source and prevalence. The results obtained are then disseminated locally, nationally and internationally as scientific evidence, relevant for academic and policy needs.

💰 Sources of Funding

The institute adopted a diversified funding model to ensure sustainability and growth. The sources of funding include:

  • Tuition Fees: The primary source of revenue is tuition fees paid by students.
  • Donor Support: International donors and NGOs are approached for support in areas of health sciences research, student scholarships, and faculty development.
  • Partnerships: Lubega Institute of Nursing and Medical Sciences established partnerships with hospitals, research institutes, and private sector companies for research collaborations and service provision.
  • Endowments and Alumni Contributions: A robust alumni network was established to generate funds from graduates, and efforts are made to build endowments to support the institute's operations and growth.

🌍 Physical Facilities

Lubega Institute of Nursing and Medical Sciences sit on a thirty-acre piece of land for current and future developments. The institute is easily accessible by public and private transport from Iganga town, and the campus has walk-ways within that are well furnished with pavers.

  • 30 permanent classroom blocks each with a capacity of 100 students
  • Well-stocked library with physical and over 8,000 e-books
  • 7 well-secured student hostels with capacity for 2,000 students plus staff quarters
  • Safety measures including lightning conductors, fire extinguishers and CCTV cameras
  • Modern playground for recreation (football, volleyball, netball, athletics)
  • 3 Skills Laboratories with ventilation, models, charts and equipment
  • Multipurpose hall, kitchen, store and waste management facilities
  • Electricity & backup power: National grid connection + standby generator + solar security lights
  • Water & sanitation: Piped clean water, adequate drainage and safe waste management
  • 30+ computers connected to internet for e-learning and teaching
  • 2 school buses & 2 staff vans for student and staff movement
  • Prayer centres including a large mosque for worship

🏆 Achievements

  • Upgrading to university status: The Institute is in the process of upgrading to university status and has secured a letter of interim authority from National Council for Higher Education for the proposed Lubega University of Science and Technology with its headquarters at Busei Iganga.
  • Rapid expansion: Rapid expansion of the institute from 100 students in 2016 to 2000 students in 2025
  • Land acquisition: Purchased over thirty acres of land for the institute
  • Successful graduates: Graduated over 5000 graduates and our alumni are successfully employed either by the government, private sector or are self-employed.
  • Collaborative relationships: Fostered various collaborative relationships for instance it's in collaboration with the Canadian Education Council for training of health professionals in the European countries.
  • Community partnerships: Strong community partnership with various organizations like AL-Manihal organization, Nile Humanitarian organization among others.
  • Regional reputation: Built a rapid reputation in Uganda and East Africa.

🚀 Future Plans

  • Expanded Infrastructure: On-campus infrastructure are still inadequate and management plans to have the institute construct more infrastructure for expanded learning.
  • Increase in research and development: Expand research initiatives and development activities within the institution.
  • National and international partnerships: Seeking for partnership with institutions of similar nature nationally and internationally for further development.
  • Exchange programmes: Seeking for teacher and student exchange programme with other institutions.
